Creating a Safe Space

We stand in solidarity with the Black Community & the Black Lives Matter Movement, the Indigenous Community, and the Asian American & Pacific Islander Community. We are committed to creating a work and community environment that fosters diversity, establishes a cultural and environmental feeling of belonging, and creates a safe space for Black, Indigenous, & non-Black People of Color, the LGBTQIA+ community, and people of all ages and disabilities.

Our bodies are really the arbiters of safety, and when we’re not safe in the world, being honored in our humanity, or if our basic human needs aren’t being met, then we start to break down—spiritually, emotionally, physically. The only pathway to move forward and stay strong is to be gentle with yourself and become acquainted with your vulnerabilities. For us to be able to do this work constantly and show up, we have to take care of ourselves, and how we do that is so hinged on us being able to have access and tools for self-care.

Anti-Racism Education

In order to create safe spaces here at ERP, we're relying on our entire community, which is currently predominantly white, to stop, examine themselves, and daily recommit to their personal antiracism journey. The work is never done.

As a community, we’re committed to continuing to educate ourselves, unlearning racism, speaking out, making financial contributions, supporting local Black-owned, Indigenous-owned & Asian American & Pacific Islander-owned businesses, and continuing to promote racial equality and equity in all aspects of our business, as well as at home.

Here are some great resources we strongly recommend.

Portia Boston

Portia is an inclusivity educator and diversity trainer based in New York City. During her time as a certified personal trainer, master barre instructor and studio manager, she continually observed a lack of cultural diversity and inclusion across all aspects of the wellness industry. She has led DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) trainings for large-scale organizations, fitness studio owners and individual wellness professionals to help them create more inclusive business models and ultimately help them better serve their communities and the industry at large.

NAAYA Wellness

Rooting BIPOC in their well-being. Founder Sinikiwe Dhliwayo is dedicated to making the wellness space more equitable and offers a robust series of educational conversations.
