Our Mat: All Levels and Reformer: All Levels classes are designed to help you build confidence, reconnect with movement, and learn the fundamentals. If you're feeling unsure where to begin, Mat Pilates can be a great starting point. Without the added complexity of equipment, many people find it easier to focus on learning the principles of Pilates before progressing to the Reformer.

Ready to take things up a notch? Our Advanced, Cardio, and Core, Glutes & Arms classes are designed for movers looking to build strength, endurance, and athleticism.
You can expect a more dynamic pace, greater complexity, and an invigorating full-body workout that will leave you feeling strong and accomplished.
PREGNANT OR POSTPARTUM?
Our Prenatal & Postnatal Friendly classes and Privates are thoughtfully designed to support you through every stage of pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. With a focus on safe strength-building, pelvic floor connection, posture, and mobility, you'll move in a way that feels supported, empowering, and appropriate for your changing body.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Pilates is a low-impact movement practice that focuses on building strength, improving mobility, enhancing posture, and developing a deeper connection to your body.
At East River Pilates, our classes are designed to help you move well, feel strong, and experience the life-changing benefits of Pilates in a supportive and welcoming environment.
-
Welcome—we're so glad you're here.
If you're new to Pilates, we recommend starting with Reformer: All Levels or Mat: All Levels. These classes are designed to be accessible, supportive, and welcoming to beginners while still offering plenty of challenge as you grow stronger.
Our teachers will guide you through the movements, offer modifications when needed, and help you feel confident from your very first class.
-
Absolutely.
Many of our clients begin their Pilates journey in our All Levels Reformer classes. You do not need previous Pilates experience to participate.
Our teachers are experienced in supporting first-time movers and will help you become familiar with the Reformer and class flow at your own pace.
-
Reformer Pilates is performed on a specialized piece of equipment called a Reformer, which uses springs to create both resistance and support.
The Reformer helps improve strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, and body awareness while offering endless movement possibilities. It's suitable for a wide range of experience levels and is one of our most popular ways to practice Pilates.
-
Just yourself, comfortable clothing you can move in, and a water bottle.
For Reformer classes, grip socks are required and are available for purchase at the studio if needed.
For Mat classes, mats and props are provided.
-
We recommend arriving 5 minutes before class begins.
This gives you time to check in, get familiar with the studio, meet your teacher, and settle into the space before class starts.
-
To ensure the safety and experience of all clients, East River Pilates has a No Late Arrivals Policy.
If you arrive after class has started, you will not be admitted to class. We recommend allowing extra travel time, especially for your first visit.
-
Classes may be cancelled up to 12 hours before the scheduled start time without penalty.
Late cancellations and no-shows are subject to our studio policies. Please visit our full FAQ and Policies pages for complete details.
-
If a class is full, you can join the waitlist.
Should a spot become available, you will automatically be added to the class and notified by email. Because waitlisted bookings can be confirmed at any time, we recommend monitoring your email and account if you choose to join a waitlist.
-
Yes
Across our five studio locations, we offer more than 20 pre and postnatal-friendly classes each week, creating space for expecting and new parents to move safely, build strength, and stay connected to their bodies.
Our community is here for you and your growing family.
Prenatal
From your second trimester (week 13) onward, you may attend our All Levels – Pre & Postnatal Friendly classes only.
These classes are intentionally designed to support your changing body, with thoughtful variations and guidance to help you feel strong, stable, and confident as you move.
If you’re ever unsure, please reach out. We’re always happy to help you choose the right class.
Postnatal
Before beginning Postnatal Pilates, you must receive verbal clearance from your obstetrician, GP, or midwife.
We strongly recommend booking a private session before joining group classes to ensure you feel confident, supported, and appropriately guided.
You may attend Pre & Postnatal Friendly classes only until you receive approval from one of our teachers to transition into regular group classes.
Privates
A private session is a wonderful option if you’d like individualized support, extra guidance, and a space tailored specifically to your body’s needs during pregnancy or postpartum recovery.
